THE articles in the Times about the Beautiful Fife judging brought some mixed returns for two local communities.

For instance Cardenden achieved Gold Status while Cowdenbeath remained on Silver Gilt, two interesting results from the judges.

The thing is I go through both these communities regularly and I would say that both of them are very pretty communities with thoughtful use of all sorts of ideas to brighten their areas up.

Indeed, when you take the Community Woodland into consideration Cowdenbeath is as good as Cardenden.

So I would query why one should get Silver and the other gets Gold.

The volunteers in both these local communities deserve the utmost praise for the work they do and the results they produce.

They are out there in all weathers and produce something which makes a huge difference to both Cowdenbeath and Cardenden.

Maybe the communities could give them more backing because many hands make light work.

There is no doubt though that the communities are looking great.
