THE latest incident of flaring at the Fife Ethylene Plant has followed the same sort of pattern we have seen this year.

Weeks go by and nothing happens, then all of a sudden we get get a major slice of flaring.

That seems to have been the third time this year that there has been a period of flaring which has been very intense.

Again this has come about after a very quiet spell.

I suppose very little will compare though with the Easter weekend incidents which lasts for about a week.

But before that there had been not much happening.

It is as if the number of malfunctions leading to flaring have been rising over the past few years.

Mind you, as the plant people keep saying this is a safety mechanism and ensure that nothing bad is going to happen other than a few hours of flaring.

However, it is clear that the opponents of Mossmorran are getting more militant.
