THE story about the problems that have plagued Farm Road in Cowdenbeath basically summed up the whole situation.

While we have seen a number of accidents occur on this road nobody has been prepared to to anything.

The article showed that both councillors and roads department folk have known about the accidents that have happened but only the former have been prepared to do anything.

I use this road frequently and because it is downhill if you are not careful you can find you approaching the bend a bit quick.

Probably any sort of speed reduction mechanism would have sorted this problem out but it now looks as if it might be a bit dearer by the time they build parking bays.

Now I am bound to say that it is the drivers' fault for all the problems.

If they just showed a bit of sense this would not happen. Especially in winter when the mornings and nights are dark it is a stretch of road that deserves respect.

If you come around that bend in frosty conditions too fast you are simply asking for trouble.

The thing is that it is not just in the winter that the accidents occur, these happen in the summer months too so we really need for something to make drivers think about showing the road some respect.

The speed cushions should have an effect, I just hope that if the cars that have been parked the side of the road find themselves in parking bays that this does not open the door for folk to think they can speed.

We will find out later this year, with a bit of luck, when the work is all finished, but it has been a long haul!
