IT was good to read about Bowhill Swimming Pool's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The pool has been a very big part of the leisure facilities in the Lochgelly-Cardenden area and while there are pools at Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly these days for a long time it was Bowhill catering for the whole area.

It was good to read about Gary Watson, in his day he was a fine young swimmer and I can remember him being chosen for the Commonwealth Games team in the early 1990s.

The stories about the miners swimming in the river certainly was something my grandad used to talk about but you could see why they did it for to get to a pool would have been pretty difficult on those days with public transport limited.

I must say that when the fire struck at the pool a few years ago I was worried that the authorities might not bother on getting it repaired.

However, they did just that and it is still looking good and serving a lot of people every day.

Hopefully the Bowhill Pool has many good years in front of it and will head towards its 75th birthday.
