FIFE Council are now proudly announcing that their recycling rate is 54.7% hopefully increasing to 60% in 2020.

Whilst this is an increase on previous years they shouldn't be boasting until they're close to, at the very least, 75% going on 80%. I can't help but feel that this percentage is likely to drop over the next year.

I assume we've all received our Fife Council booklet "A little effort goes a long way," but, as usual, it's us, the public, who have to make the most effort.

Due to the council's changes regarding what goes in each bin, it would seem that we're going to be sending more to landfill than we ever did before.

At a time, when, as a world concern, we should be recycling more plastic than ever, so that it doesn't pollute our Oceans, Fife Council are informing us that products that previously went in the green bin now have to go in the blue landfill bin.

My green recycling bin is usually close to overflowing long before its monthly collection date and will now be even more so now that we have to add cartons into the recycling. All the milk that I drink comes in cartons so that'll be an extra 20 units in my bin per month. I'm also sure that larger families will also now require a bigger blue bin for their landfill needs.

Why doesn't the Council do as other countries have done and introduce around the area plastic recycling units for which money will be refunded to the person returning the items. This monetary refundment could then be used to donate towards charities, or local schools.

All in all, Fife Council are still needing to take a sharp look at themselves before advertising in their booklet about residents having to request "special uplifts"to help them disperse of any waste that they're having problems getting rid of. They should be ensuring that this is all taken care of under their original remit.

If you pay your Council Tax,you're entitled to having your waste being removed.
