THE comments by MSP Annabelle Ewing about the possibility of kids having to walk to Lochgelly High School from Benarty were very right.

Ms Ewing, like Councillors Lea McLelland and Rosemary Liewald, saw potential dangers by looking at the road and the traffic on it.

I can say that I too agree with the councillors there are big problems with this stretch of road now.

It is a very busy road with traffic seldom keeping to the 30mph speed limit but for me the size of the vehicles using it are possibly the biggest reason for worries.

The lorries that use the road take it to link with the M90 via the Fishtail and their presence on the road make it doubly difficult.

I feel that this route may in terms of health and wellbeing might be a decent idea in terms of the distance involved and encouraging kids to keep fit.

Yes the distance is fine there is not a doubt about that and if the traffic was lighter on this main road through Benarty it could be just what was required.

But the volume of vehicles and their speed is simply too much for safety's sake.

So I would say that the committee that will take the ultimate decision on this should maybe think more about how safety aspects of the road measure up to health and wellbeing.

If one pupil was injured on this road then it would be one too many.
