I HAVE sympathy for Mr Di Placito who complained in his recent letter about the loss of the trees which used to be the view from his living room window in St Ronans Gardens.

However, in areas of Lochore the trees had to be taken down because of the problems they were causing.

These were so high the residents of the likes of Mannering Street, Montrose Crescent and Oliver Street struggled to get any light at all.

My late mother and her neighbours in Mannering Street suffered from a number of problems from the trees which had been let get out of control.

The volume of leaves blowing into their gardens was massive and each autumn saw them having to spend hours collecting these up.

Also in the summer there was little sunlight coming into their property and neighbours had to give up the idea of having solar panels because of the angle the trees were sited at.

So the campaign that we had to get rid of the trees was a one with really good reasons and there were also situations where the lack of light and warmth caused dampness and also things like infestation of flies.

The reason we wanted the trees sorted out were very valid but now there is another problem.

The ground where the trees were sited has not really been managed very well and instead of smaller trees being planted to become established and keep weed problems down the weeds have run right.

You even have weeds blowing about the streets in the height of summer and it really is not good.

I would like to see a survey of the residents to get their views on what should be done with the area trees were on.

There has to be some way of dealing with this situation to make it more pleasant for the residents.

If it isn’t sorted out then we will see the weeds keep invading the cleared areas and then flying into the gardens. Time for action I would say.
