IT is not unreasonable to believe that discussion, consultation and openness are key features of the Fife Council decision making process.

Unfortunately not as far as Crossgates is concerned.

Enquiries have revealed that the council, with the support of our local councillors, is in the process of handing over our park to a group of trustees who intend to build a sports hub and football pitches.

Meetings with this group have been ongoing for a number of years, with villagers unaware of the extent of the handover.

The land in question is the park lying between Humbug Park and Crossgates Primary School. Every day this area is used by a large number of people, young and old, for a large variety of purposes.

It is also used by the school and Crossgates Gala.

It is highly valued by local residents.

If this development was to take place, residents would lose their free access to the park for their own enjoyment and instead would have to pay for the use of any new facility.

The people of Crossgates are fortunate to have this green space and do not want to lose it.
