IT was brilliant to see so many people coming out last Sunday for Remembrance Day.

Certainly with all the publicity both local and national no one can say they were not aware of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1.

It truly was very good to be part of the great day in Cowdenbeath when the High Street at the north end was packed with people.

The story was the same in Kelty, Cardenden and Benarty showing that people can be motivated to get involved with something of such importance.

The great thing was that the two memorials in the town were in good shape and hopefully it means that the vandalism we have seen in the past at the World War 1 monument is consigned to the history books.

What impressed me as much as the total atmosphere was the number of young people involved in the big day.

There were cadets, yes, but also young people there just to watch what was going on which is very encouraging.

Hopefully the momentum from Sunday will be maintained and that there will be other events keeping the effects war can have to the fore.

So well done Cowdenbeath and indeed the whole district it really as a very good commemoration locally.
