THE article in last week's paper about the changes on Cowdenbeath High Street was interesting.

I have notice that there has been a lot of activity around the Green Square that I noticed over the past six weeks and it has certainly been extended.

The use of turf for the surface maybe is a bit questionable as it is not as hard wearing as some other surfaces might be.

After all is it not the case that the Square is meant to be the venue for a number of outdoor events.

I was just thinking too that the turf might get an early test with the Christmas Lights switch-on at the end of November.

For there will be loads of people there that night and if the weather is a bit damp it might become a bit muddy.

However, on the plus side it certainly is looking good and I cannot wait to see the mural that the girl is going to paint.

If it is anything like the one in Brunton Square it will really make a big impact.

The other features of the improvements are definitely to be welcomed and while there have been a few mutterings about Pit Road being pedestrianised it maybe is for the better.

The dark days of winter won't show the improvements at their best but by the spring it should all be complete.
