I READ with interest that the Lochgelly Gala Committee were asking for helpers to 'join up'.

Unfortunately I am unable to but have supported past and present efforts when I could.

I was upset at some of the comments I have been hearing and also the reasons for helpers not coming forward, so maybe it only be fair that you publish this letter and the now members can answer themselves.

It seems most of the members are related and some previous moneymaking ideas have been rejected?

Where they choose to have their meetings are maybe taking a 'fee' from the gala funds, surely anywhere chosen should be free of charge if for local community events.

People donate money to support actual gala projects not for somewhere to profit from funds.

In the past previous meetings were held in the houses of members if able to, therefore no money spent unnecessarily!

Mind you I am going back to the good old days when people did things locally without looking to be paid or anywhere a profit made.

Also fundraising events should be shared among local pubs who I am sure would gladly agree, if asked, which at the moment are not, another suggestion boohooed by current members.

Also why was the raffle not drawn on the day of the gala as people expected. The excuse was given there was not enough tickets sold but who's fault was that?

No list of prizes was displayed in shops so what were the prizes and who won?

Some ideas and suggestions for events at the park were also ignored, etc wrist bands for children's rides, something popular at other galas.

I know I have ranted on but in only giving a gist of what is said in whispers as if members are not aware of 'local views' and pay attention to some views.

Some hold back because of them being on their own with few helpers.

I do hope they can take criticism, if constructive and hopefully do get more people to help. I will continue to support wherever I can .

Best of luck in all for next year's gala.

Could I also mention if possible if you could put in an appeal for helpers for the planting and upkeep of the lovely floral displays in and around Lochgelly.

It is sad that it has been left to only two dedicated men to build and plant out the tubs.

I am sure there must be some gardeners or growers who could find a few hours to help or really anyone, no experience is needed to give a hand.

Also donations of plants or money for compost, feeding etc would be helpful.

The 'main office' is at the plots along Lumphinnans Road and the main man is Mr Dod Kinnell. Please help, thank-you.
