THE article in the Times last week about the problems with plastic casings for items in shops was something I have been thinking about for quite a while.

There is no doubt that it is something which is posing problems world wide but too few people seem to be prepared to do anything.

The fact that people in Cardenden are getting involved in this is very encouraging.

Maybe it will gather pace because I noticed in your article that there are plans to perhaps introduce the measures that were used in Cardenden into other parts of the locality including Lochgelly and Benarty.

I was counting up the amount of groceries I got one weekend that had plastic involvement and out of 14 items eight had plastic wrappings.

If that is reflected throughout the country then clearly we are going to have problems.

I saw that TV programme which showed the amount of plastic items floating about in the sea and it was shocking.

Hopefully the away ahead will be that plastic wrapping and bottles etc can be cut down for unless it is how can this situation be sorted.

The quicker we get retailers to choose wrapping that are paper etc the better for that at least might curtail the amount of material that cannot be properly recycled.

Otherwise we are going to go nowhere fast. I only hope things will improve with the council leading the way.
