AT last something is happening at North End Park, in Cowdenbeath, after years of inactivity.

The only thing that came out of the Tesco fiasco which saw local businesses have to shut was the creation of the football hub in Lumphinnans.

Apart from that all we have seen at the north end is the grass on the former football pitch get longer and longer while the buildings at the island simply looking derelict.

So to see the machines move on to the overgrown area and remove the old pavilion and then the former shops has been a real boost for everyone.

And the arrival of the Lidl and the B&M retail facilities will make Cowdenbeath a much more attractive place for shoppers.

It kind of arrives at the right time as Cowdenbeath is steadily changing into a much more attractive place for people to visit.

The fact that the town will have big operators like Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl and B&M should see keen competition on prices but at the same time make Cowdenbeath a good place to visit.

That in itself will have a spin-off for other businesses in the High Street which makes it a fine end to the year in Cowdenbeath.

All we need to see to complete things is a new look to the Crown Hotel site.

I have heard of a few ideas for the site but unlike in other parts of the town, nothing happening. Let us hope that this is next on the agenda.
