WHAT good news in the Times last week about the developments that are going to happen at the north end of Cowdenbeath High Street.

This part of the town seems to have been in the doldrums for years, maybe about a decade or more.

After the fire which damaged the Crown Hotel there was hope that the Tesco plans for North End Park would see the area spruced up and maybe that would spread to other parts of this part of the street.

Alas there was nothing that happened in Cowdenbeath, albeit Lumphinnans got an astro football pitch.

So maybe we are now at the big moment when something positive is going to happen.

The mess that North End Park has got into over the past few years is really not good for the town.

Virtually every weed known seems to be growing on what was a really nice football pitch.

The grass has grown and grown and this is simply a mess.

The paper suggested that building work would start within a matter of weeks, or a few months at the outside, so once that gets going we must surely be looking at the end of the road for the mess.

The plans certainly are going to bring competition to the High Street but more to the point if all the investment going on in the south end is going to be matched by the work at the north end it is win, win.

By this time next year both stores will be open and maybe even the Crown will have a new look.

That will be absolutely brilliant for Cowdenbeath and the town's councillors will have something to crow about.

This could be an historic moment for Cowdenbeath and as the entire central part of the town is going to have a massive upgrade that will also see more people attracted into it to spend money.

Just what has been needed so patience will be rewarded.

NORTH ENDER,

ROSEHILL CRESCENT,

Cowdenbeath.
