COUNCILLORS are right to be concerned about the way things are developing on Lochleven Road.

As houses continue to be built, not only at the side of the northern end of this stretch, but throughout the Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty area, and as the population rises traffic on this road is bound to increase.

As one of our letter writers observes this has long been a major link between the A92 and the M90 for the Lochgelly district. The kind of back road link rather then going by the Halbeath Interchange.

All three communities are set to continue to have a lot of new houses built in the coming years and with each new property having an average of three people it is going to see the LCB community push up by four figures at least.

That will see the volume of traffic increase on Lochleven Road and of course, the development currently being built at the side of the road will have a substantial number of vehicles using the road from 2020 onwards.

Substantial traffic calming may well help sort the problem out and it would certainly seem to be the only easy option available.

To provide some sort of new link to ease the pressure on the road would not be a viable proposition at the present time.
