'THE General Election campaign has now begun and despite some pessimistic political commentators predicting disaster for the Scottish Conservatives, I believe there is every chance of success.

In many SNP Westminster seats across Scotland, it is the Scottish Conservatives who are the challengers, and who stand to benefit most from pro-Union tactical voting. That was what helped our party so much in 2017, when we saw 12 additional Scottish Conservative MPs elected on a clear

manifesto commitment to deliver Brexit.

Whilst some of those 2017 voters might have personal reservations about Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, they will still vote for the Scottish Conservatives when the alternative is an SNP MP supporting Nicola Sturgeon’s push for another Indy referendum.

Despite former SNP leader Alex Salmond stating the 2014 Independence Referendum would be a “once in a generation” vote, the Nationalist party have ignored that pledge and persistently pushed the case for holding what is known as IndyRef2 – a mantra that a large percentage of Scotland’s

population are tired of hearing about.

Across Scotland, the Scottish Conservatives are in good spirits, campaigning hard, and up for the fight. The canvassing we have done so far shows that our vote is firm and motivated – and that we are determined to use this opportunity to send a strong message to Nicola Sturgeon that Scotland doesn’t want another divisive Independence Referendum.

The SNP’s record on ‘doing the day job’ is shocking. We constantly hear about moving Scotland’s political interests away from London but the Scottish Government have shown that when in power they have failed the nation on devolved matters such as education, health and finance.

And matters have been made worse with the SNP – helped by the Scottish Greens – introducing the controversial Car Park Tax - a bad idea which will hit the lowest paid workers the hardest.

I believe that voters will be attracted by UK Conservative policies on having safer streets, ensuring we have a strong economy, investing in our schools and strengthening our NHS.

With the Labour Party signalling they wouldn’t stand in the way of another Independence Referendum, the Conservatives are the only party who will stand up for the Union, and we are the only party who has pledged to get Brexit done.
