I am delighted to be writing in the column once more, it has been a while.

Lochgelly Youth Forum

After a lot of work by Lochgelly Youth Forum and its members, later this month, I along with a small group of the members, will travel down to London to meet with Lesley Laird MP and see the democratic process in action down in Westminster. This will provide a great learning experience to those young people and also allow them to quiz their representative at Westminster, to ensure they are being properly represented on issues important to them.

ACEs Work

My work and the Scottish Youth Parliament’s work on Adverse Childhood Experiences are continuing to go from strength to strength. I met with a group of MSYPs, interested young people and stakeholders including the Scottish Government and NHS, to further work on my toolkit. I’m now in the process of collating the information we received from the toolkit and aiming to launch this later this year, empowering MSYPs and young people to take a stand on such an important issue.

School Meals

In April, I was delighted to present a motion to the Cowdenbeath Area Committee, which called for an investigation into the quality and pricing of school meals, with a report back by October. This received media attention, far and wide, from local newspapers to national media. One thing I have found out is that this isn’t just local to the Cowdenbeath Area, its wide spread across Fife and Scotland… change is now needed more than ever.

Youth Select Committee

The Youth Select Committee, for which I am Scotland’s representative, has put out its call for evidence, which closes on Thursday July 6. After recent media stories of yet more incidents involving knifes from south of the border, I believe it is more important now to investigate this issue and submit proposals to Government on how young people believe this issue should be tackled. No one should go out and never come home due to knifes.

Exams

With June seeing the end of the SQA exam diet, I want to take a minute to say well done to all my constituents who sat these exams. The wait is now on until results day, Tuesday August 6. But regardless of your results, you should all be immensely proud of yourselves and remember – there is no wrong path in life.

If any young person (12-25) has an issue/concern they’d like me to raise, or wants to know more about my work, please get in touch by emailing Bailey-Lee.Robb.MSYP@sypmail.org.uk, or following me on Twitter: @BaileyLeeMSYP.
