THE success of the Benarty Community Shop in winning the Best Starter Award is simply an example of the success of this brilliant 'community hub' idea.
The Lochgelly Community Shop was the first to be set up in the area and it soon made an impact and its success saw a similar venture established in Cardenden. Like Lochgelly it too was a marvellous success.
It was no surprise that the Benarty shop was opened 18 months ago and it has received exactly the same support as the others and maybe more.
These are another example of the community coming together in force and that is the real reason that these community shops have been so successful.
The Benarty Community Shop will, in the spring, open their extension which will include a cafe facility and it is certain to become a major feature of the set-up.
The success of these community shops should maybe nudge Kelty and Cowdenbeath people into thinking if similar ventures are worth setting up there.
