Fife Council's Asset Management officers feel that Lochgelly Town Hall is surplus to requirements but councillors on the Cowdenbeath Area Committee are anxious to keep it open. Reporter Ross Hart visited the town to ask whether residents would keep the hall open.

"Of course I would! It has a lot of different amenities, especially for the kids, and it is a really nice building." - John Preston (65), Timmons Park, Lochgelly.

"It should be open, especially for the young people because there's nothing there for them. And they wonder why they wander the streets? A lot of the institutes have been done up; why not do up the town hall as well?" - Charlotte Rodger (77), Scott Place, Lochore.

"I've just been to a class in there so if they shut it I'll kill them! It is central, everybody knows where it is, and where will the old folks go for their afternoon teas or Christmas dinner? Where will the different groups who use it go?" - Susan Duncan (86), Boyd Place, Lochgelly.

"Yes it should be kept open. It's used for the bairns, five-a-sides and other things, and it feels like the council want to shut Lochgelly down. It's a disgrace. The town hall is for the people of Lochgelly." - Willie Rolland (64), Stewart Crescent, Lochgelly.
