THIS week we have one of the youngest ever set of Times Jury members.

They are pupils of P6 at Cardenden's Denend Primary School who on Friday saw the fruits of a project which has run throughout 2015 come to fruition.

It involved building a racing car and then driving it and on Friday morning the finals of the pupil time trails took place.

The finalists were Maisi Drummond, Aimee-Leigh McLeod, Keiran O'Donnell, Jamie Scougall, Kieran Cowan and Sami Ilhan and we asked them what they felt about the Green Power Goblin Challenge.

Sami was convinced it will hold him in good stead as his life develops: "Before we started the project I knew very little about how you would construct a car and how it works and driving it gave me a lot of confidence.

"What I learned will certainly help me throughout my school life."

Aimee-Leigh admitted that at first she was a little frightened at the thought of driving the car: "Once I got going in it my confidence grew and it made look forward to driving a real car.

"Also the engineering skills we picked up during the construction of the car was something we would not have been able to learn anywhere else."

Kieran O'Donnell felt that the introduction to engineering the project brought was excellent from his point of view: "Learning how to use a spanner and a screwdriver and putting the parts together was really interesting." And Maisi Drummond enjoyed having the chance to learn early engineering skills: "It opened the door to great experiences."

Jamie Scougall felt it had made him think about engineering as a career: "Getting this opportunity certainly has made me consider it for it was fun and rewarding."

Meanwhile Keiran Cowan agreed: "This was a really brilliant experience."
