IT is good that the people of Lochgelly are to be consulted on where the historic bell is to be housed.
This is a long lost part of the town’s history. I would doubt that many people would know that the bell existed. It has clearly been on the roof of the Town House for decades without anyone really knowing and it is part of Lochgelly’s history.
Hopefully it can be cleaned up and put in a prominent spot in the town with perhaps a plaque explaining its history.
Councillor Ian Chisholm, who is championing the preservation of the bell, favours Lochgelly Centre as a suitable site for it to be displayed but there are others. The public park or the town square are just two of the alternatives. The people of the town are to be asked for their views which is good and this will be an excellent community venture.
