NADINE Dorries’ rise from that of a humbly paid nurse to that of an MP has questioned the inadequacy of her salary, saying there’s not enough hours in the week or wages to fulfil her onerous role and that consequently MPs should receive a substantial increase in pay.
But wasn’t this the same person that, like that old Namibian goat, Edwina Currie, spent time on a ‘reality’ show in the jungle and like Currie and other minor celebrities such as Kirsty Wark, Judy Finnigan, Alan Titchmarsh, Gillian Anderson, et al, attempt to milk the public by publishing rather dull unreadable novels? Where do they get the time, let alone the backing?
I’m sure Nadine, on her not inconsiderable income, could afford a new fridge, suite or even a kitchen. Better still, how about a cruise to Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan and North Korea, as part of a junket research project on comparative poverty?
I’m sure the populous would take her to their collective heart and she could always charge her expenses to the public purse.
Like other civil servants I feel that politicians should be subjected to JARs (Job Annual Reviews), by impartial chief whips, in order to assess their overall efficiency and effectiveness.
As a consequence, I suspect there would be a considerable number of red faces and an even larger proportion of compulsory redundancies, not increases in salary!
