I SEE in the Central Fife Times that Fife Council are making orders for double yellow lines to be placed in areas of concern for road safety which, unfortunately, are needed as the already in place rules are being ignored.
Parking within 10 metres of a junction, on bends, opposite bus stops, etc, it all comes down to drivers ignoring present stipulations and saying ‘I didn’t know that’ or ‘there was no sign saying I could not’.
Most drivers conveniently forget what they learned on their driving lessons and refuse to keep up to date with the highway code.
The biggest problem is enforcement, or rather the lack of it. The council will occasionally send traffic wardens to the town centre but no enforcement is given to out of town areas where access to service vehicles is blocked by bad onstreet parking.
