BRAVE couple Debbie and James Cameron, from Crossgates, will abseil from Scotland’s iconic Forth Rail Bridge to celebrate their first wedding anniversary on Saturday July 1.

They are raising funds for local disabled children’s charity, The Yard.

The Forth Rail Bridge abseil, organised by the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, benefits many local charities including The Yard, which runs adventure play services for disabled children in Edinburgh, Dundee and Kirkcaldy.

Debbie said: “Instead of cards and good wishes for our first anniversary, we are asking our friends and family to sponsor our abseil and donate to The Yard – a different take on the paper element of a first anniversary.

“I have known of The Yard and its amazing work through fundraising and volunteering over the last three years. When I saw they had places for the Forth Rail Bridge abseil, it caught my eye, as it was the date of my first wedding anniversary. Then it hit me…why don’t we celebrate our anniversary by taking part!

"My husband James and I are both really looking forward to the abseil. Living in Fife, we often commute, drive and walk across the bridges. To be able to abseil from the Forth Rail Bridge while raising funds for such a good cause is a great opportunity.”

Anna Robinson, Partnerships Manager at The Yard, said: “We are so grateful to Debbie and James for their support and choosing The Yard to benefit from this amazing challenge. We still have places available, so if you would like to abseil for The Yard, please get in touch.”

The 2018 Forth Rail Bridge abseil is now open for registrations on a first come, first served basis. As soon as the maximum number of entrants is reached, registrations will close. Registration is £30 and you are asked to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship.
