A 28-year-old man is behind bars after admitting a catalogue of violent behaviour towards his then partner.
The woman suffered more than a year of abuse after starting a relationship with violent thug Jamie McGuigan.
McGuigan, of High Street, Cowdenbeath, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted his guilt.
Between May 24 2023 and August 3, 2024 at various locations in Cowdenbeath and elsewhere, he engaged in an abusive course of conduct towards his partner.
He shouted and swore at her, made abusive remarks towards her, seized her by the body and hair.
He threw a shovel which struck her property, punched a car wing mirror causing damage, removed a bottle of alcohol from her car and consumed it.
He shouted, swore, threw a can of alcohol at her, punched a television causing damage and also damaged a car wing mirror.
He made abusive remarks to her and repeatedly punched her on the head to her injury.
He remained with her at hospital and compelled her to leave and return home whilst she was waiting for medical attention.
He threw a glass at her, shouted and swore at her, repeatedly attempted to punch her on the head and body, threw a mobile phone at her and followed her.
He also repeatedly breached bail conditions imposed on September 12, 2023.
He breached the order between December31, 2023 and May 27, 2024. He was banned from being in the woman’s company but failed to comply.
Depute fiscal Leeanne Barclay said the victim was a mother of two children from a previous relationship when she met McGuigan in 2022.
The relationship was “good initially but she started to notice a change in his behaviour particularly when he had been drinking or taking drugs”.
On May 24, 2023 he became “furious” during an argument.
“He grabbed her by the arm and thereafter by the hair whilst shouting and swearing at her and the pair engaged in a scuffle,” said the depute.
The children were upstairs in the house at the time of the incident. The woman managed to get McGuigan out of the property before calling a friend on Facetime to tell her what had happened.
The friend said the victim was crying hysterically with swelling to her head and blood coming from her nose.
McGuigan would regularly making derogatory comments about the victim’s weight and called her names such as “slut” and “slag”.
On February 22, 2024, the victim had been at a friend’s house socialising and McGuigan was with her. Later the woman went home and fell asleep on the sofa.
McGuigan returned afterwards and during the night launched a violent assault.
The depute went on: “She was awoken by the sound of the accused running down the stairs. By the time she opened her eyes, he had started repeatedly punching her to the face.
“She cried and screamed at him to stop, by which time she noticed there was blood all over her.
“She could barely talk and was in pain. She told him he needed to take her to the hospital, which he eventually agreed to do and they travelled to the accident and emergency department at the Victoria Hospital.
“He sat two rows in front of her and she believed he did so to make sure she didn’t tell anyone what had happened.
“Whilst waiting to be seen, she went to the toilets and phoned her friend.
She had sent her a photograph of her bruised face and she spoke very quietly as she was hiding from McGuigan in the toilets.
When two police officers walked into the hospital on another matter, McGuigan told her they had to leave and “because she was scared” she did so.
The victim later drove back to the hospital because she was in so much pain.
Sheriff Susan Duff called for reports and remanded McGuigan in custody until October 7.
