A FIFE Foodbank is set to get a kitchen upgrade after a successful funding bid.
Fife councillors this week agreed to provide up to £6,000 to support the project at the Levenmouth Foodbank in Methil.
A report to members of the Levenmouth Area Committee explained that the current kitchen is poorly laid out, difficult to maintain and experiences challenges during periods of heavy use.
It added: “The Foodbank plan to refurbish the kitchen on their premises, including installing extraction fans, updating kitchen cabinets, installing new hob and ovens, fitting new flooring and improving the electrics.
“The work on the kitchen will take one week to complete, however arrangements have been made to ensure the cafe connect service will continue to be offered over that period to ensure continuity for service users.”
Community manager David Paterson told councillors that the current kitchen was poorly laid out.
“The Levenmouth Foodbank want to be looking at more constructive interaction with the clients that they have and a lot of that is around about improved cooking skills, general knowledge of healthy eating and how to eat on a budget which is generally a challenge for a lot of the clients,” he added.
“The recommendation is that it is agreement of a contribution of up to £6,000 of match funding. The balance is £5,760 would be foodbank funding.”
Councillors unanimously agreed to approve the funding bid.
