A man was viciously attacked in his street after asking a group of drunk teenagers to stop making noise in the early hours of the morning.
The victim was punched, kicked and knocked to the ground. He was taken to hospital and his injuries included a black eye and a suspected broken rib.
A 17-year-old girl, who was part of the group, assaulted police officers when they arrived.
All three thugs involved in the violence have avoided any punishment and instead been told to write a letter of apology to the victim.
The three teenagers appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court but cannot be named for legal reasons.
The violence took place on February 28, at Park Lea, Rosyth.
The 17-year-old girl, from Rosyth, admitted she assaulted a police constable by seizing him by the body and kicking him.
She also assaulted two other officers by kicking them.
A 17-year-old boy from Cowdenbeath and a 16-year-old boy from Kelty were also in the dock.
They admitted that they assaulted a male by repeatedly punching him to the body causing him to fall to the ground and then repeatedly punched and kicked him to his injury.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that at 12.30am there was a lot of noise in the street being caused by a group who were consuming alcohol there and shouting at each other.
A local resident went out to ask them to keep the noise down. The group became aggressive towards him and he was punched by the 17-year-old youth.
The victim was then pushed to the ground where he was kicked by the 16-year-old.
Another two people came outside to assist the injured man and the police were called.
When arrested the girl kicked out at the officers.
The victim was taken to the Victoria Hospital after sustaining a black eye, bruised head and suspected broken rib.
The youth who punched the man was already on a court order at the time of the attack.
Sheriff Krista Johnston commented: “You can’t just come to court and say, ‘Oh well I’m young can I just have another order’.”
She told the trio: “This was an atrocious crime. It was the type of thing that gives young people a bad name.
“You were creating noise in the street and decent people came out to ask you to keep quiet. You then turned on this man and he was kicked when on the ground.
“You must be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. You really need to get your act together.”
The girl and the 16-year-old youth were both put on structured deferred sentences and will return to court on November 12.
The 17-year-old youth was put on a community payback order with a year’s supervision.
She told all three to write a letter of apology to the victim.
