A teenager punched a woman and then ran towards a group with an axe in a disturbance outside a hotel.
The 16-year-old, who lives in England, had been visiting Fife when the trouble broke out.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was accompanied by his dad when he appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on October 12 last year at the Queens Hotel, Bowhill, he assaulted a female by striking her on the head.
He also admitted he was unlawfully in possession of an offensive weapon, an axe.
Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said the youth and his older cousin had booked into the hotel for the night.
They had been in the bar until it closed at 1am and they were asked to leave.
When the left they got into an argument with some people outside and the youth punched a female in the face.
A witness heard the commotion outside and saw someone with an axe running towards the group.
Fortunately for them the youth “fell over because of his state of intoxication and the axe was taken away from him”, added the depute.
Defence solicitor Alexander Flett: “This took place after he was consuming alcohol and obviously he’s too young to have been doing that in the first place.
“The axe was retrieved by him from the vehicle they had come to Scotland in.”
Sheriff Krista Johnston told the youth: “Your behaviour was outrageously unacceptable.
“You were under the influence of alcohol and punched a female in the face. Then you ended up with an axe which must have been terrifying for the people there.”
She imposed a community payback order with a year’s supervision and forfeiture of the axe.
