A Fife woman who attempted to murder a child by repeatedly administering unprescribed medication has been jailed for a minimum of six years.
Laura Docherty, 35, gave the child medication which was unsuitable for children, causing repeated bouts of sickness and several hospital admissions. She was also placed on an order for lifelong restriction.
The offences took place over around a year between 2022 and 2023.
Medical staff raised concerns in February 2023, prompting a police investigation.
Docherty, from Glenrothes, was arrested and charged in May 2023. She was found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh in December 2025 and sentenced there today, Monday, August 17.
She also posted a number of TikTok videos during the period of her trial.
One was captioned “#makemefamous”, while another featured an eye-roll emoji alongside the words “court again”.
In a further clip, she is seen lip syncing to 'The Time of My Life' by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.
Another video, captioned “#court #screwedup”, appears to show her inside the High Court in Edinburgh while lip syncing to a dance remix of Celine Dion’s 'Because You Loved Me'.
A separate clip appears to have been filmed in a toilet within the court building, showing her lip syncing and dancing to a remix of T.I. and Rihanna’s Live Your Life.
Detective Constable Gemma Warriner said: “This was prolonged and abhorrent abuse of a young child which resulted in numerous stays in hospital.
“Throughout the investigation, Docherty took no responsibility for her actions and repeatedly blamed others.
“Cases where children are subjected to harm can often be difficult to deal with, however, we are committed to investigating such incidents fully and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
“I hope today’s sentence brings some comfort to the family.”
Police Scotland urged anyone concerned about a child’s safety or welfare to contact officers on 101 or speak to partner agencies.
