Young performers from Crosshill’s Company School of Dance are heading to Blackpool where they will take part in the World Street Dance Championships.
It starts tomorrow (Wednesday) and they’ll compete over five days at the town’s Winter Gardens against peers from as far afield as Thailand and Germany.
Teacher and co-founder Ashleigh Yule said: “Everybody is really excited and so ready, we’ve trained a whole year for this and now they get to go and do what they love.
“We became British champions this year in crew battles, so we’ll go down to defend our title at worlds.
“It’s funny because a lot of people think it just happens in movies, but it’s real.”
Dozens of members from age five all the way up to 21 have entered categories such as teams, solos, trios, quads, parent crew, and one-v-one battles.
“Parent and child is one of my favourite parts of the weekend,” said Ashleigh.
She went on to describe how difficult it is to reach the world stage, commenting: “It’s not easy dancing as a sport, especially from a parent’s point of view.
"Ours spend Monday to Thursday, up to four or five hours a night sitting outside the studio.
“It’s a lot of money and time that goes into it, and I think the commitment is why our school is so successful.”
