A COWDENBEATH restaurant has been named among the finalists for this year’s Spice Awards.
Shimla Palace, next to Central Park, is in the running for two awards at the annual event, which celebrates Scotland’s Asian food sector.
The restaurant has been shortlisted for Best Nepalese Restaurant and Best Restaurant in Fife after public voting in recent months.
It will compete against venues from across the country in the Best Nepalese Restaurant category, while it is also among the Kingdom's businesses hoping to take home the regional title.
The Spice Awards recognise restaurants, takeaways, chefs and teams in a range of categories, including Best Indian Restaurant, Best Chinese Takeaway, Best Curry, Best Kebab House and Best Dining Experience.
Warren Paul, director of the awards, said: “The competition heats up more every time and the voting numbers have been crazy.
“It’s great to see some new names popping up along with the old favourites people go back to year after year.
“Despite the challenges it shows the food scene in Scotland is still buzzing and still something we should all be very proud of.
“The finalist list shows the result of voting by people who love what those businesses do, so it’s the voice of the public not us.”
Mr Paul added that the awards highlighted the work of businesses across Scotland’s food sector.
He said: “We showcase the hard working people and families who dedicate their lives to bringing amazing food to towns and cities all over Scotland.
“With rising costs, small businesses are struggling so it has never been more important to support local, especially family or independent businesses.”
The winners will be announced at the Spice Awards ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow on Monday, September 7.
