The Central Park Community Trust has been praised for its “tremendous work” providing opportunities for Cowdenbeath’s young people.
It has long held football sessions for people of all ages, including camps for kids throughout the summer holidays.
The town’s MSP visited one of them at Central Park last Wednesday and was impressed by what he saw.
David Barratt said: “It was brilliant to see around 40 boys and girls fully engaged, enjoying themselves, making new friends and developing their football skills in such a positive environment.
“Programmes like the Scottish Gas Football Camps do far more than just promote sport.
“They provide children from all backgrounds with free access to activities during the school holidays, help tackle holiday hunger through the provision of free lunches, and give parents and families valuable support during the school break.”
The charity was recognised for its efforts by the Central Fife Times at last year’s Community Champion Awards.
Mr Barratt continued: “It is clear that sport plays a hugely important role in helping young people develop confidence, teamwork, communication and respect.
“Seeing that positive energy on display today was a real reminder of the difference initiatives like this can make in our communities.”
