Fife Council has said it “understands how disruptive roadworks can be” and that measures are being taken to keep delays in Cowdenbeath as short as possible.
It was asked if anything was being done to minimise disruptions in the town, after a business owner came to the Times with complaints about current works affecting access to the centre.
They’re being carried out by Scottish Gas Networks and will see Foulford Road closed from High Street to Hill Street until Monday August 17.
And Primrose Lane will be off-limits until Thursday August 20.
The concerned businessman, who did not want to be named, said that people “avoid the area” during periods where traffic is held up.
It follows on from last month, when it was said that the High Street was “grinding to a halt” due to the amount of roadworks clogging up the area.
The council's lead consultant for network management, Maggie Baird, said: “We understand how disruptive roadworks can be and the council works closely with utility providers to coordinate timing and agree traffic management arrangements.
“Roadworks carried out by statutory utility companies are to repair, maintain or upgrade essential infrastructure such as gas, water, electricity and telecommunications networks.
“These works are often unavoidable. Utility companies have legal rights to access the road network, and while the council does not carry out these works, we do have a coordinating role to help manage disruption.”
The council said that no direct compensation is available for roadworks-related disruption, but it gives free business support for ventures through its InvestFife team, which works closely with Business Gateway Fife.
