A LOCHGELLY cafe has been recognised as one of the best in Fife in Scotland's Business Awards.
Rise & Dine on Bank Street picked up the consumer award, which recognises those with excellent customer service and who benefit their community.
Chivaune Harmon and her mum, Brenda Richie, opened the cafe - which serves up popular breakfast items, home baking and hot rolls - in July 2024.
The business is a family affair and Chivaune's foster daughter, Emma, now works front of house, greeting and serving customers.
The cafe has been a big part of the local community since it opened.
When Lochgelly Bowling Club was in danger of closing, they did lots of fundraising to try and help it stay open, and they've consistently supported Cowdenbeath FC.
It's also a place where older people can feel at home, and they recently threw a regular customer an 80th birthday party in the shop.
On receiving the recognition, Chivaune said: "We got such a surprise; we didn't know we were up for it. Someone nominated us.
"We were up for best cafe; we didn't get that, but at the end of the night there was this special consumer award.
"We got it for customer service and what we do in the community. It was a shock for us, but a good shock."
Chivaune said it was a nice moment for Emma to be celebrated after all of her hard work in the cafe.
"It was good to see her up there getting the award and some recognition, because she is the front of house," she said.
Swiis Foster Care Scotland, who works with the family, said: "Emma, who is currently on continuing care, has played a fantastic role at a recent business awards event where Chivaune’s café was nominated for an award.
"She was the first to go on stage to collect the award. It was a proud moment that highlighted just how far Emma has come.
"Working part-time in the café has provided Emma with valuable opportunities to build her confidence, develop new skills, and gain experience in a busy working environment.
"It has also supported her independence and self-belief, showing what can be achieved when young people are given the right support and opportunities."
Chivaune, Emma and Brenda are now looking forward to the national awards ceremony, which will be held in Glasgow in November.
