A 59-year-old drink-driver repeated the offence just days after a sheriff told him to stay out of further trouble.
He ignored that warning and as a result is now behind bars, having been caught behind the wheel when more than twice the limit.
Back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court was James Williamson, formerly of Thorntonwood Travelling Persons Site, near Kelty but latterly living in Kirkcaldy.
He had admitted that on May 5 last year on the B925 Dunfermline Road, Crossgates, he drove a van having consumed excess alcohol.
His reading was 52 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.
He was also driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.
Last December, Sheriff Krista Johnston decided to defer sentencing for six months for Williamson to show he had stopped drinking and was able to do unpaid work as an alternative to prison.
She told him then: “You’ve got six months to remain sober to see if you’re fit for unpaid work.”
When returned to the dock, the court was told Williamson had been caught drink-driving again four days after the sheriff’s warning. He had been jailed for that offence.
Now he has been jailed for the deferred matter.
Sheriff Johnston noted that Williamson had at least six drink-driving offences on his record. She jailed him for eight months and imposed a new driving ban for six and a half years.
