A driver crashed his car off the road in Lochgelly claiming he was being chased by “bad people”.
Oliver Yeaman, 26, of Boarse Avenue, St Andrews, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on October 8 at Cartmore Road, Lochgelly, he drove a car carelessly, lost control of the vehicle, caused it to leave the road and collided with a fence, damaging it.
Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said that at 2.15am he was driving a Citroen C2 when he “mounted a verge, went over it and into a fence”.
He and others in the car “exited and fled the scene”.
Police were contacted and when officers tracked him down, Yeaman “said he was being chased by bad people”, added the depute.
Defence solicitor Amy Harley said her client is a father-of-two, on benefits and has hopes to set up a vehicle recovery business.
There were “people holding grudges against him” and “when he looked in his rear mirror he thought he was being followed”, said the solicitor.
The car in front of him braked and he took evasive action, hitting the fence.
Yeaman was already on three penalty points and Sheriff David Nicolson imposed a further six points. As a new driver, this means that his licence has now been revoked.
