Cowdenbeath Gala Events volunteers staged a sponsored fancy‑dress walk over the Forth Road Bridge at the weekend to raise money for the town’s gala.
Ten walkers – including larger‑than‑life favourites such as Bluey, a chicken, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Anna from Frozen – made the crossing in aid of new costumes for the gala parade.
Margaret “Wee Mags” Davidson, who is part of the Cowdenbeath Gala Events team, took part dressed as Minnie Mouse and said the group was overwhelmed by the backing they’ve received.
“Fundraising is so hard in this day and age and if it wasn’t for these people helping us there’d be no gala and there’d be no parade,” she said, thanking everyone who sponsored or joined the walk.
Among those taking part were an elderly walker completing her first ever trip over the bridge and another volunteer who faced down a fear of heights to make it across, which Margaret described as “an inspiration”.
The exact total from the walk is still being counted, but every penny will go towards updating the committee’s ageing costume collection ahead of gala day, which is now just a fortnight away. Wristbands for the event are on sale in local shops for £10.
The committee, which recently secured £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund towards Cowdenbeath Gala Day, taking place next month, is also gearing up for its next fundraiser – a karaoke competition at the Woodside Hotel on Saturday, June 6, at 7pm. Tickets cost £3 from the bar or any committee member.
