INSPIRAL Carpets have been added to the bill for this summer's Rockore - and there's an even bigger name still to come.
The Madchester favourites, famous in the 1990s for hits like This Is How It Feels, She Comes In The Fall and Saturn Five, will play at the music festival in Lochore Meadows Country Park on Saturday August 22.
And organisers, the Benarty Events Group, have still to announce the headliner with that news set to drop next week.
The Carpets were formed in Oldham in 1983 and were part of the indie music scene that exploded around Manchester along with the likes of the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays.
Singer Tom Hingley departed in 2011 and they continued until 2016 when drummer Craig Gill died.
The band announced they were getting together again in late 2022 and have been gigging since then, playing PJ Molloys in Dunfermline last May.
A spokesperson for the Benarty Events Group laughed: "My son was really impressed when I told him.
"He's seen them a few times and said 'How did you get them?'. They were really good to deal with.
"The preparations are going fine but we're a wee bit behind. This time last year we had sold out but we had also announced the headliners.
"We're about three quarters of the way there, so hopefully with Inspiral Carpets on board and the announcement of the headliner to come next week, that will give it a big push.
"We know we'll sell out, we're just getting everything ready for the big day."
They are the eighth act to be added to the bill, along with Blackpool stompers Ska Face; George Bowie, aka DJ GBX; Ian Beattie - The Freddie & Queen Experience Tribute Show; Deacon Blues; Instant Credit; Drums N' Roses; and Dionne Hickey.
Rockore is one of the big three events in the Meedies that's organised by the Benarty Events Group, the other two are the Benarty Gala and the Pipe Band Championships, the latter includes a Highland dancing competition.
The spokesperson said: "No-one is full-time, we're all volunteers so it's a lot of work.
"The big earner is Rockore but we're at the mercy of the weather - if we had to cancel people still want paid - but thankfully that's not happened.
"We've still got a few things to do. One of the committee said that organising Rockore is like a swan floating along the water, it all looks calm but underneath it's kicking like hell!
"We do love it. But we love it better at 10pm that night when it's all done!
"Although then you've got the clean-up which takes about a week, it's three or four days just to take down the stage and then you've all the fencing and everything that's on it too."
Benarty Events Group was formed in 2014 and was praised at a recent Fife Council meeting by Councillor Bailey-Lee Robb.
During a discussion on the Meedies he thanked park staff and added: "I also want to pay tribute to the Benarty Events Group as three of the events in this report, Rockore, the pipe band championships and Benarty Gala, are a roaring success.
"It's a group that, even beyond these events, does some fantastic things."
The spokesperson for the group said: "It was really nice he said that, it was much appreciated, but sad to say we never get anything from the Cowdenbeath area committee that he sits on with the other councillors.
"The Bruce Festival in Dunfermline got £10,000 from the Dunfermline area committee but we never get anything.
"That would pay for half of our security costs, which are nearly £20,000, while the fencing is around £25,000 and then you have all the bands to pay.
"Rockore costs a lot to put on, it's not far shy of £200,000, and we have to claw it all back through ticket sales and the bar."
Tickets for the 18-plus music festival cost £35 and are on sale now from Benarty Community Shop in Ballingry, BRAG Enterprises in Crosshill and Identity Hair Salon in Lochore.
