A loyalist flute band parade will bring rolling road closures to Cowdenbeath on Saturday, May 23 – the same day the Pars contest the Scottish Cup final against Celtic.
The Brian Bedborough Memorial Parade, organised by the Young Cowdenbeath Defenders Flute Band, will set off at 6pm, with eight visiting flute bands joining the procession through the town in tribute to one of the group's founding members.
On their Facebook page, organisers said the event is being held to "gather in remembrance and respect" for Mr Bedborough, whom they describe as "a founding member of the Young Cowdenbeath Defenders" and "an outstanding loyalist who would always go above and beyond for his own."
They add that his dedication and work within the loyalist community "inspired many" and that he "continues to hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him."
To allow the parade to go ahead safely, Fife Council has put in place a rolling road closure between 6pm and 7.15pm.
The route takes in Woodend Industrial Estate, Broad Street from its junction with High Street, the full length of High Street, Foulford Road between Leuchatsbeath Drive and High Street, and Leuchatsbeath Drive from the entrance to the public park to Foulford Road. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout.
The parade also marks the Young Cowdenbeath Defenders' 23rd anniversary. Following the march, the band will hold an evening function at Kelty Ex‑Servicemen's Club from 7.30pm until late, featuring "loyalist entertainment" and performances from Greengairs Thistle Flute Band and Monkstown YCV Flute Band. Tickets are limited.
Residents are advised to plan ahead, with the early‑evening road closures coinciding with supporters travelling to and from venues to watch the Scottish Cup final.
