A Kelty care home has been praised by regulators after an unannounced inspection found residents were receiving warm, compassionate care in a clean and welcoming setting.
Benarty View Care Home, in Rowan Lea, was visited by the Care Inspectorate on 30 and 31 March, with the report published on April 2. The 40–bed home was graded “very good” for residents’ wellbeing, leadership, staffing and the quality of the environment, and “good” for how care and support are planned.
Inspectors said there was a “warm and friendly atmosphere” in the home and that people were supported by staff who knew them well and tailored care to their individual needs.
One resident told them: “Carers are good, the staff are good to us,” while a relative said they felt “comfortable they are being very well looked after; it’s peace of mind for me.”
The report highlighted a stable staff team, close working with GPs and other health professionals, and good management of medication.
Relatives described Benarty View as “one of the best nursing homes in the area” and said they “can’t thank them enough” for the care their loved ones receive.
Mealtimes were observed to be relaxed and social, with residents given choice and any dietary needs catered for.
A dedicated activities co‑ordinator and care staff run a varied programme of events, with seasonal decorations and regular outings on the home’s minibus helping residents stay connected to the local community.
Inspectors also praised the physical environment, describing the purpose‑built home as clean, bright and free of intrusive noise or smells. Residents have en suite rooms which they can personalise, access to several lounges and dining areas, and use of enclosed gardens and an on‑site hair salon.
One family member told inspectors: “The rooms are spotless.”
Leadership at Benarty View was described as strong, with robust quality‑assurance systems and an “open-door” approach which gives residents, relatives and staff confidence to raise any issues.
The only slightly lower grade – “good” for care planning – reflects ongoing work to introduce new paperwork, which inspectors said will take time to embed but is already supported by clear one‑page guides for staff.
No complaints have been upheld about the service since the previous inspection. The Care Inspectorate concluded it was confident the staff, management and environment at Benarty View are helping to deliver positive outcomes for the 39 residents living there at the time of the visit.
