War Graves Week is inviting people to explore the hidden histories behind Commonwealth war graves.
Set to return this May, the nationwide programme will take place from May 16 to 24 and will include tours in Central Fife at Lochgelly Cemetery on May 16 at 11am and Beath Old Cemetery on May 23 at 11am.
The events aim to raise awareness of the personal stories behind the headstones, stories of service and sacrifice from the First and Second World Wars.
Megan Maltby, head of public engagement at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), said: "War Graves Week is an opportunity for people to see familiar places in a new light.
"In Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath, there are stories of courage, loss, and resilience that are part of the community’s history yet often go unnoticed in everyday life.
"We are encouraging everyone to explore local CWGC sites in the area and share their own stories to connect Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath to our shared global history."
In Lochgelly, the CWGC cares for 18 war graves and memorials, while Cowdenbeath is home to 41.
Among those commemorated is Alex Scott, who was wounded during the Somme Offensive in 1916.
Another is Andrew Archibald, who died in service during the First World War and is buried in the same plot as his son, who died during the Second World War.
Headstones like these are often overlooked by passers-by, but each one represents a life lived and lost, part of a worldwide network of remembrance stretching across more than 150 countries.
The CWGC is inviting people to share their own stories as part of its global storytelling platform, For Evermore.
The scheme aims to bring together communities and families through personal connections to those who served.
Residents can take part in a wide range of activities during War Graves Week.
They can visit CWGC sites, attend events, discover the stories in their own areas, or contribute their own memories online.
Each tour will offer insights into the lives of those commemorated, as well as information about the broader history of Commonwealth war graves.
