PLANS to place parking restrictions on a Strathkinness road are to be driven forward despite Fife Council receiving objections to the scheme.
Back in December, members of the North East Fife Area Committee agreed to back the proposal to introduce no waiting at any time regulations on part of Sunnyside.
A report to councillors had said that “inconsiderate” parking was reducing the available carriageway width and resulting in issues with buses getting through.
The proposal returned to the committee on Wednesday after statutory consultation attracted four objections.
Concerns raised included the lack of access to on-street parking, no road safety issues with the current arrangement and the proposed restrictions meaning some residents cannot park directly outside their property.
Fife Council Technician Engineer Nigel Hampton said the proposals would remove problems caused by on street parking.
“Our recommendation would be that we would set aside the objections otherwise we are going to be left with the same problem with the passage of buses,” he added.
Councillor Al Clark, who represents St Andrews, asked if the proposals could be changed so a small section of the planned restriction was removed.
“The current situation is cars are parked on both sides of the road and that is causing the issue,” he said.
“If we just removed parking on one side, would that reduce the impact enough to keep community council happy but also the bus companies happy as well?”
However Mr Hampton said this would not alleviate the issue and would result in a new traffic regulation order having to be applied for.
He added: “If we reduce it as you suggest we would risk there still being a pinch point.”
Councillors agreed to set aside the objections and go ahead with the traffic regulation order.
