First stage of Lochore Meadows car park revamp is completed

Resurfacing was recently carried out in order to fix potholes, worn tarmac and to re-mark parking bays. Planned work included expanding the nature reserve's parking capacity by building a new tarmac car park next to the main visitor centre, with 65 new spaces.

The upgrades will be welcomed improvements for many and brings enchancements that will help to alieviate vehicle bottlenecks during busy periods and better the park's access.

According to Fife Council: "The project is being jointly funded by Fife Council’s Capital Programme, awarding £40,000 and £40,000 from the Cowdenbeath Community Recovery Fund.

"The aim is to reduce congestion during peak periods and make it easier and smoother for people to arrive and get parked."

The work was completed ahead of the Easter holidays, but it's understood that further improvements will be made after. On Facebook, the country park also said the improvement was just one of "many exciting projects" being undertaken this year.

They wrote: "Work has been underway on additional parking spaces in the country park."

"This upgrade which is located at the rear of the main visitor centre carpark will help reduce congestion during busy periods and improve access for everyone by providing additional spaces."

Convenor of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, Cllr Alex Campbell welcomed the development saying: “Lochore Meadows is a much‑loved place for both local people and visitors, especially during the busier months. Increasing the number of parking spaces will make a real difference, helping more people access the park safely and easily. 

"This investment shows our continued commitment to supporting outdoor recreation and improving local facilities.”
