Police dogs and their handlers have competed in regional trials at Cowdenbeath Football Club.
The 57th Scottish Regional Police Dog Trials 2026 took place across three venues in April, finishing at Cowdenbeath on Wednesday, April 8.
Ten Police Scotland handlers and their dogs competed in a range of challenging trials over three days. These were designed to test their skills and operational readiness.
Trials included tracking a person using residual scent, searching for property and suspects, chasing and detaining suspects, heelwork and agility, and testing the dog’s courage during weapon attacks.
The two top-scoring handlers and their dogs have qualified for the National Police Dog Trials. This will be held from May 14 to 16 and will be hosted by West Yorkshire Police.
Two handlers qualified for the National Police Dog trials; PC Magnus McGarry with PD Kim, a six-year-old German Shepherd dog, and PC Niall Gibson with PD Mary, a three-year-old German Shepherd.
Police Scotland posted on Facebook: “We are incredibly proud of all our handlers and dogs, who performed to an excellent standard and most importantly, enjoyed competing.”
