From next month, new lower speed limits will come into force across Cowdenbeath and Lumphinnans as part of a national push to improve road safety.
The changes form part of the Scottish Government’s Road Safety Framework to 2030, which sets out a long-term vision of eliminating deaths and serious injuries on Scotland’s roads by 2050.
From April 1, a number of streets in Cowdenbeath will see speed limits reduced to 20mph. These include Ceder Avenue, Stuart Place, Burgh Road, Stein’s Place, Park Avenue and the cul-de-sac section of Lochgelly Road. Parts of main roads in the town will also be affected.
In Lumphinnans, the B981 Lochgelly Road/Main Street will be reduced to 20mph between its junction with the A909 and a point around 141 metres east of the kerbline at Gagarin Way.
The A909 Perth Road/High Street/Bridge Street will also see a new 20mph limit introduced, stretching from approximately 25 metres south of the extended kerbline at Leuchatsbeath Drive to around 18 metres southeast of the building line at 2 Birnie Ridge.
Leuchatsbeath Drive itself will be affected from a point roughly 12 metres north of the kerbline at Craigbeath Court through to its junction with Foulford Road.
The new 20mph restriction will also apply to all future roads within a planned development site to the south of the B981, west of Lumphinnans Primary School.
