Originally launched in 1997, World Book Day aims to encourage children to discover the joy of reading.

Nearly 30 years on, it’s become a highlight of the school calendar, inspiring children across the country to dress as their favourite fictional characters and dive into new stories.

Teachers also got involved in the day, which celebrates authors, illustrators, characters and a love of reading.
