COWDENBEATH Rotary Club is set to help the War Graves Commission to deliver talks to local primary schools on what life was like during the Second World War in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.
At Thursday's club business meeting, club president, Craig Bennet, told members that the WGC was keen for club members to help them give pupils the chance at several local primary schools learn more about life at school and in the local community during the early 1940s.
He said: “Our work with the Commission during the VE Day Commemorations, showed real interest among the pupils to learn more, and the school staff expressed a real interest in our helping them in anyway we could so we are delighted that in March we can assist.
“Club member, John Bald, has a tremendous collection of armed forces memorabilia and he is delighted to be able to take this to schools to help pupils understand what life was like at such a difficult time.”
The club president added: “We also will be holding the judging in our Crocus Competition for our primary schools, as part of the End Polio Now campaign.
“The school pupils have been busily growing the crocuses over the winter period and the judging will take place in March.
“There will be a host of lovely displays, of that we are sure, this can create a colourful finale to our End Polio Now campaign.”
