The date for the annual Scottish Coal Carrying Championships has been revealed.

The annual coal race originates from stories that colliers in the late 1800s ran home from the pits with bags of "rakers" or "clugs" in their bags.

In recent times, men, women and children race with heavy sacks along a 1000-metre route for prizes, whilst supporters are entertained with a DJ music set and mascots.

This coming summer, the run will take place on August 29, after the success of last year's event, which drew a large turnout of athletes and spectators, including people from across the UK.

At the last event, parades took place, featuring the Black Watch Pipe Band, Methil Pipe Band, Kingdom Brass Band, the Julie Young Dancers, Dynamic Dance and Kelty Evangelical Church.

Adults and kids alike enjoyed the sunny street party hosting singers, Jimmy Jack, Garry Coupland from the Singing Kettle, Clark Stewart and David Hodgson.
