Fife Council has confirmed that Bank Street in Lochgelly will re-open today (Friday, December 19) as work to demolish the fire-damaged former cinema continues.
The building in Lochgelly's town centre was severely damaged by fire in September, and work to demolish it has been ongoing ever since.
In the interests of public safety, an exclusion zone was put in place with traffic lights on Bank Street and the pavement closed off.
Now, as the demolition work nears completion, the council has confirmed it is safe to re-open the road, although the pavement will still be out of bounds.
Garry Nicol, the council's service manager for building standards and public safety, thanked local people for their patience while the work was carried out.
He said: "We have a statutory duty to act if a building is dangerous and after the fire, the building posed an immediate danger to the public.
"As the building was unstable, an exclusion zone had to be put in place until the work is finished and I'm delighted that we're now able to relax this before Christmas."
Demolition work is expected to be completely finished by the end of January.
