A family food business has won top honours for its classic Scottish recipes.
The Farmer’s Son, based in Auchtertool, has been awarded double gold at the Great Taste Awards for its black pudding and haggis, both made from a 100-year-old family recipe.
The business is now the only Scottish producer to hold the gold award across its entire range and has also secured a listing with luxury department store Fortnum & Mason.
Founded in 2017 by Pete Mitchell, The Farmer’s Son is rooted in a farming heritage that dates back to the 1700s in Fife.
Mr Mitchell said: "The Great Taste stamp is a mark of excellence and we are really thrilled with this news.
"This is recognition of not only the high quality but also the hard work and consistency of our team.
"I am delighted that Fortnum & Mason have chosen to stock our award-winning products.
"This is a testament to our hard work and commitment over the years to produce the highest quality products possible.
"To be included in the food hall of one of the world’s best department stores, sharing shelf space with a selection of the country's finest handpicked products, is quite an honour for us."
The Farmer’s Son produces a range of traditional Scottish products, including black pudding, white pudding, haggis, and Lorne sausage, using natural ingredients and time-honoured methods.
The Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, are considered the world’s largest and most respected accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.
This year, more than 14,000 products were entered and judged blind by a panel of 500 food experts.
The Farmer’s Son’s black pudding and haggis were praised by judges for their "generously sized slices," "enticing caramelisation," and "well spiced, authentic and delicious" flavour.
The business previously won gold for its Lorne sausage and white pudding in 2021.
The Farmer’s Son supplies its products to leading retailers, hotels, and chefs across the UK, including Whole Foods and Gleneagles, along with customers as far away as Hong Kong.
Mr Mitchell said: "Although business is very challenging for all small and medium sized businesses at the moment, we are excited for what’s next."
The company remains committed to sustainability and supporting Scottish agriculture by reducing food miles and promoting environmentally responsible farming practices.
